How do I save the ringtone, wallpaper or video?
Upon clicking "Upload" in the ToneThis application, you will receive a text message with a link to download the content. Internatioanl and some US/Canadian users will have to type in their personal ToneThis URL manually into their WAP browser - please scroll down.

If you haven't already, please see the tutorial. Depending on the phone, clicking the URL in the text message to save the ringtone, wallpaper, video or game can be tricky.

Motorola: Typically, you have to hit the top-middle button on your Moto phone and select "Goto". This will open up the WAP browser and load the URL in your text message. For Verizon Motorola phones, you will usually have a "Save" or "Save Ringtone" menu item.

Nokia: On newer Nokias, you will have to select "Find URL" or "Find Web Address". This will locate the URL and allow you to click on it to open the WAP browser. On older Nokia's, you will have to edit the text message and remove everything but the URL and then click "Use Detail" for the URL.

Samsung: Most Samsungs have a "Cut Address" option, this should find the web URL and allow you to open it. On a few Samsungs, you will have to open the URL manually, meaning you have to type it into your WAP browser.

SonyEricsson: On most SonyEricssons, you can scroll in the text message to the link and then click "Connect".

LG: On Verizon LGs, you will have to hit "Save Sound" or "Save Pix".

Sanyo: On Sanyos, you usually scroll down through the text message. The URL will be highlighted automatically so you can then click it.

Windows Mobile: After you recieve the text message and click the link using your stylus to download the content. Click "Save" and make sure you select the "My Music" folder - this will make it visible when you try to set it as a ringtone.

Alternatively, if you are unable to extract the URL, you can also type your unique ToneThis user URL directly into your phone browser; this URL will always contain the last ringtone, wallpaper or video you sent to your phone. Here are some examples below:

US / Canada: http://www.tonethis.com/PhoneNumber (ie http://www.tonethis.com/5102824220)

UK: http://uk.tonethis.com/CountryCodePhoneNumber (ie http://uk.tonethis.com/448131613191)

France: http://fr.tonethis.com/CountryCodePhoneNumber (ie http://fr.tonethis.com/338131613191)

As above, for your country, it will be http://CountryDomain.tonethis.com/CountryCodePhoneNumber

If you are typing in your personal ToneThis URL, as shown above, please note that some phones do not "refresh" the WAP (mobile web) browser pages correctly and so when you send your next piece of content, please make sure to "refresh" the page on your phone; this may require clearing the cache in the browser on the phone. This is usually an option under "Options".

Also note, when typing in your personal ToneThis URL, some phones do not like URLs that do not end in a file extension (ie .html or .php etc) and may give you an error such as "Invalid URL". To resolve this, please type the following http://tonethis.com/PhoneNumber/index.php - Note, the "/index.php".

I don't see my phone or carrier?
ToneThis is constantly testing and adding support for new phones, carriers and countries. If you don't see your phone, first try selecting a similar phone (same manufacturer, same size etc) to see if that works. ToneThis supports many phones that are not yet on our handset list.

In addition to trying similar phones, please post the phone model in the forum and we will test and add it, if possible, shortly thereafter.

Please note, ToneThis cannot support Verizon non-camera phones and most Verizon Samsung phones. ToneThis will also not support any phones that are not MP3 ringtone quality phones. You can verify this by looking at the specifications for your phone at the carrier website.

Additionally, ToneThis does not support prepaid plans such as Virgin Mobile. ToneThis does not support operators and devices that maintain a walled garden such as Boost Mobile, Nextel and the Sidekick devices on T-Mobile. ToneThis does not support BREW operators such as Alltel, MetroPCS, Amp'd, Cricket Wireless, Cellular One, US Cellular and Midwest Wireless with the exception of Verizon. ToneThis cannot support carriers that do not offer WAP browsing capabilities such as mPulse.

The lack of ToneThis support on these type of carriers listed above is not a restriction of ToneThis but rather a restriction of the carrier. ToneThis will support new carriers where technically feasible. A list of tested carriers can be found here.

How do I type the URL into the phone?
First, make sure that your phone is internet enabled meaning that you can access the web on your phone. Next, you will want to browse to either a web icon or a browser; sometimes the web is listed under services or fun and games. Once you've opened the browser, you will have to navigate the menus to find a "GoTo URL" option, here you will be able to type in the URL to your ringtone, wallpaper, video or game. If possible, bookmark the URL so the next time you can load the page up faster. The URL will always be http://www.tonethis.com/phonenumber and for international users http://CountryDomain.tonethis.com/CountryCodePhoneNumber - see above for examples.

I have more then 1 phone?
Within ToneThis, you can create multiple profiles by selecting the "Add" button in the lower left of the application. Each profile has a unique phone number, handset and carrier details. You can quickly change the profile by selecting a different from the listbox. Each profile can see only their recieved shares and marked favorites.

I didn't recieve the ringtone, wallpaper, video or game?
Depending on your coverage and the carrier, it may take a few minutes for the text message containing the link to the content to arrive. On occasion, it may take longer; in these situations, we've noticed that sending and recieving of another text messages may trigger all of the text messages to be instantly delivered. Please also verify that you have entered in the correct phone number and selected the exact carrier in the ToneThis application. If you don't see your carrier, you cannot select an affiliated carrier, this will not work. Also note, if you were originally an ATT subscriber before the Cingular merger, you are still ATT subscriber, not Cingular. Please also check that you have selected a supported handset, note, Verizon non-camera phones and most Verizon Samsung phones are not supported. It is also possible that you are not subscribed to a text or picture messaging plan with your carrier and the text or picture messages ToneThis is attempting to deliver are bouncing. ToneThis will email you (if an email is on file) when a content text / picture messaging delivery is bouncing to your mobile number.

MAC support?
Sorry, ToneThis has no immediate plans to add Mac support; hopefully, you can dual-boot.

I get an error when I try downloading the ringtone or wallpaper?
First verify that you have internet access on your phone. In the US, this would require a subscription to PCS Vision or mMode or MediaNet or TZones etc.

The most common error is "Invalid Content Type" or an "Error 503" message. This usually means the ringtone, wallpaper or video is too large or the content format is not supported on that phone. Make sure your ringtones and videos are not larger then a 15 to 20 seconds. Note, older Verizon handsets are limited to 5-10 second ringtones. Also, certain carrier gateways, do not allow delivery of ringtones, wallpapers, videos or games, so for example, a user may be able to use ToneThis successfully in NY but not in CA through the same carrier and with the same handset. Similarly, you could have a supported phone but an older version of the handset that does not support MP3 ringtones.

Another common error is "Forbidden" or an "Error 403" message. This usually means you do not have internet access on your phone. As states above, please make sure you are subscribed to data and that your phone can properly access other mobile websites.

Another less common error is "Not allowed by activation key". This occurs if your phone has been locked by your operator and will not allow you to download ringtones. To resolve this, you need to contact your operator to unlock your handset so you may download mobile content to your phone.

How do shares work?
First, sharing of pirated and even your own content is illegal. Sharing is meant for public-domain content and content you have created yourself.

To share content, you click the "Share" button, this will require you to type in the emails of your friends you'd like to share to and an optional message to attach. Note, ToneThis only uses these emails for the purpose of sharing the content. If the share recipient has ToneThis installed, the application will automatically download the new shares, using the email address as the unique identifier. If the share recipient does not have ToneThis installed, the recipient will recieve an email with a link to download ToneThis. After the recpient successfully downloads, installs and sets up a profile in ToneThis (with their same email address), ToneThis will download the new incoming shares. Once the shares have been downloaded to the desktop, you can personalize and send your shares to your phone.

How do favorites work?
After you upload a ringtone, wallpaper or video to your phone, you are presented with an upload success dialog. In this dialog, there is a checkbox option to mark the content as a favorite. "Favorited" content will be available through your "Locker" so you can upload the content again to your phone or share it with others.

The ringtone, wallpaper or video quality sucks?
Unfortunately, there isn't much ToneThis can do about the ringtone, wallpaper or video quality. ToneThis will provude the best ringtone and wallpaper quality possible for your phone model. Depending on your selection, you can choose varying video qualities; higher video quality means a larger file which may fail to install on a limited memory device. As newer phones are released, we expect to support improved ringtone, wallpaper and video formats resulting in improved quality.

Video and game support for my phone?
Sorry, ToneThis does not yet support mobile video for Sprint and Verizon users - we are working on this right now. Games are not supported for BREW operators including Verizon, Alltel and US Cellular.

When I playback the ringtone or video, I don't hear anything?
Certain phones, when in mute will not output the ringtone or video audio - please verify that you are not in silent mode.

I'm unable to apply the saved sound or content as a ringtone etc?
With some phones, you can save the content but you are unable to apply it as a ringtone, wallpaper or video ringtone. The new VZ LGs are good examples of where they have disabled this functionality (ie LG VX8100). The Palm Treo can save the ringtone but you can't apply them as a ringtone until you install a third party application such as Lightwave.

Sorry, but we don't have a good answer for this. We are noting the devices that are problematic and removing them from our supported handset list. This is a limitation of the phone and we can't manipulate it.

When I hit upload, I get "Interconnect Failed (12002 or 12009 etc)"?
This error is due to the Windows XP firewall. You can turn off the firewall by going to the Control Panel->Windows Firewall.

Will I receive charges on my air bill (carrier bill)?
Depending on what carrier you have, you may or may not recieve additional charges on your air bill. In order to deliver the ringtone, wallpaper, video or game, ToneThis sends a text message to your phone. On some carriers text messaging is free, on other carriers, it's 1-2 cents each time you recieve one. For Verizon users, we send an MMS (picture message), the cost for these are usually higher.

When will you support regional carriers such as Suncom, Centennial, Boost?
ToneThis is working actively to add support for many of the regional (and international) carriers. If you do not see your carrier supported, please post the requested carrier into the forum.

Selecting affiliated carriers when your carrier isn't specifically listed will not work. For example, selecting ATT because Suncom is affiliated with ATT will not work.

ToneThis says my serial has exceeded the number of uses?
You may only use your serial number to install your application a limited number of times. Usually, you will never reach your limit unless you have lost your serial number. In this case, please contact support (at) tonethis (dot) com and please include your name, your PayPal reciept number, your phone number and your current serial number. We will issue you a new serial number and invlidate the current serial.

How do the keyboard controls work?
Keyboard controls allow you to fine-tune your editing. While in the ringtone or video editor, you can hit the "Left" or "Right" arrow keys to to fine-tune your selection. In the wallpaper editor, you can use the "Left", "Right", "Up" and "Down" keys to move your selection.

It worked the first time, but now it keeps downloading my first ringtone?
This is almost always a WAP (mobile web) browser cache issue. Please make sure you "refresh" the WAP page on your phone; you may have to clear the cache of your in your mobile phone browser. "Refresh" and "Clear Cache" are usually options under the "Options" soft-key.

Sometimes this occurs when the phone is full; it may appear that the download was successful but then you don't see it. Please make sure your phone has enough free space to download the content; this may require removing some of the existing ringtones, wallpapers, videos or games that you have sent to your phone.

The user-interface is too big?
ToneThis has a known issue with screens operating at 120 DPI; ToneThis has been optimized for 96 DPI. Running at 120 DPI results in the UI being too big or text not fitting within a window etc. To adjust the DPI settings on your machine, please right-click your mouse on the desktop and select "Properties". Then select the "Settings" tab and click "Advanced". You will see a DPI setting listbox in the "General" tab, please adjust this to 96 DPI and click "Ok". You may be required to reboot you system; the ToneThis interface should now be fixed.

I'm receiving "CLR Error: 80004005" when starting ToneThis?
Please right-click on ToneThis located on your desktop and click "Properties". Please un-check "Run in Compatibility Mode" and then restart ToneThis.

Can I use the toolbar without ToneThis installed?
The search functions of the toolbar can be used without ToneThis installed. However, if you wish to send any content to your phone, you will have to have ToneThis installed. Note, the toolbar is installed with the ToneThis application.

I can't send my web video to the phone?
The ToneThis toolbar currently only supports Flash video from YouTube. We are actively adding support for other video partners and should have an update soon.

How do I uninstall the toolbar from Firefox?
In Firefox, please click Tools->Extensions. In the Extension Manager, scroll until you find the ToneThis toolbar extension. Please click the extension and click "Uninstall". Click "Ok" and restart your browser.

How do I uninstall ToneThis?
In the Control Panel, please click "Programs and Features" and/or "Add/Remove Programs" if you are using Windows 2000 or earlier. You will then see a list of applications installed on your PC. You can scroll and then click ToneThis and click "Remove." This will start the uninstall process to remove ToneThis from your PC.
